Independent candidate Rick McCabe has shown that he has the qualifications, temperament and understanding of Rye’s issues to be the mayor we need. But one question remains in some people’s minds: “Can he win?”
In a word, YES. Rye residents from all political parties trust and respect Rick and are ready to vote for him.
For evidence of Rick’s popularity with voters, just look at Rye’s recent election history. In 2024, Rick remained on the ballot after withdrawing from the race (because of a temporary health issue), yet he got over 40% of the vote. In 2023, Lori Fontanes remained on the ballot after withdrawing from the race, and she got just 10% of the vote - even though she was an incumbent.
Rick has strong “hometown” support behind him. Active and retired teachers, police officers, firefighters, city employees, and their families – people serving this community who want a change after years of conflict.
Another sign of Rick’s momentum comes from fundraising numbers. Unlike the other candidates, Rick doesn't have a major, established party or running mates to help fundraise. Per candidate this year, Rick has raised more than anyone.
We have plenty of motivation to look beyond politics as usual. Lots of us are upset about the infighting and delays that have plagued the City Council for the last couple of years. We support Rick because he’s our best option to make a fresh start.
We wouldn’t be the first. In Mamaroneck in 2023, independent mayoral candidate Sharon Torres surprised everyone by beating Democratic incumbent Tom Murphy. If Mamaroneck can do it, so can Rye!
Please join in voting for Rick McCabe. You’ll find him on the ballot down on Row 5, the Rye Now independent line.
